True, many police in the U.S. dispatch digital now but if it needs to be
encrypted or at least "protected by law" they break out the cell phone or
input on the mobile computer. I have heard them go encrypted (including the
military) and then dump it for general conversations. Some areas do go
encrypted but when things go in the dumpster they have to keep going back to
something everyone can talk to each other on and that is proving to be when
mistakes are made about what should be open or not. I think in the future
digital radios and cell phones will meet in the middle but I could be all
wet. Wouldn't be the first time.

I always liked the 245XLT, but the ground is shifting away from it. Almost
everything I want to listen to is digital these days here (Sydney), so I
have a 396. About all that's left non-digital that I listen to is air
frequencies.
Unfortunately, the police went to digital but then to encryption.
Fortunately, no one else has encrypted.

Problem is you AVG antivirus, it false flags a lot. Try something good
and
free like, AVAST. After it works for a while and proves to be better and
less of a system resource hog then the big name ones, you may want to buy
it. But hey, free is really good also. This isn't spam, just a pointer.
Spam is that stuff that when my big brother put it in my school lunch to
many times I would ask for peanut butter and jelly.
By the way, I'm still using and playing with my 245XLT, I use it to monitor
the FD dispatch channel without interruption. I also recently bought
386XT.
Love it, but one hell of a learning curve, mostly using the Freescan
software right now as even with the "easier to read manual" I still keep
putting it in modes I can't get it out of like system search. Lot to
remember as it can do so much. My wife said right after I told her the
price, Well that should keep you busy for a while (or was that implied it
better keep you busy). Funny thing is I'm not allowed to mention the
price
of the granddaughter's new crib we paid for. Oh well, nice to see some
are
still hanging around this group.
Now you can flame me if you want.

Please be careful what you forward. That site was infected. My AVG antivirus
blocked the attack.
